Public Opinion Backing

How does that work?

From books I read, the authors insert some public opinion and perhaps statistics to support his/her claims on a certain subject.

"Some people said [opinion] while other people say [opinion]."
Would you have to mention how you got it?

For example, I could go to one of the forums here at WF and ask a question for my research. But although I get a lot of replies, it doesn't seem so orthodox to write in the book, "At writingforums.com, a handful of members seem skeptical about [opinion]."

How would you approach this?

I would take a tip that you hear from someone here as a basis for your own research. You don't want to quote Uncle Bob's website as some source of great opinion, so you might want to stick with Gallop or Zogby or something like that.

what are you writing?... what 'opinions' do you need?... as ryden notes, you'll do better to use 'official' sources/stats rather than internet forum members...
