It sounds like there are a lot of things you might want to look into before putting together your own story like this. You need to start reading seriously and frequently. You need to analyze what you're reading and why it works. Once you get a good feel for what the genre is all about, maybe then start thinking and planning your own story. From my own personal opinion, I would set off writing a story of any lengthy size before getting a very serious grip on what the genre is all about.
