I made up the name and then the next day at school we had to memorize it. It was pretty funny for me. Now I put my character's names into Wikipedia to see if anyone has used it before. I'm going to have to change the name of my main antagonist as his name is the same of some small reilgion.

It kinda sucks when you make up a name and find out it's something else hehe coz you thought it was pretty original when you made it up. I just ran all my other placenames in Wikipedia (Google gives you company names, too, which I figure isn't really a reason for not using a name - unless it's like Prada or something...!)

Andor was actually the sister kingdom to Gondor in the LOTR series. But by the time the 3rd Age came around, the kingdom had been long gone. Yes, it is also the kingdom ruled by Morgase in WOT.

If it is going to be a small, on the side story, keep it. However, if you are planning on publishing it, I would recommend changing it, like a poster above said, just add another words or couple of letters on and then keep that, or create a completely new name, thats entirely different...

Hmm...

I personally think the name "Andor" if pronounced On-door sounds very fantasy-like. I don't give too much about character-names, unless it's obvious
that it was stolen from another book.

ie, naming a main character Harry Potter... unless you're writing a fan fiction.
I usually incorporate the first or last names of characters in books that inspired my writings in my books.

And, if anybody noticed, it's the words 'and' and 'or' combined...
Yeah, there's a really good program you can download that generates names. It's quite useful.

Don't use it as the name of your fictional land. Robert Jordan is the leading fantasy author of our day.

Although i think the man has slowed his story down to a snore, his series is still going on.

If you like the name use it as a character name instead. Believe me that's as far as you should take it.

Actually you know that's funny. In the Elenium by David Eddings, he uses a ?country? called Deira, yet in one of Robert Jordan's Conan books there is a female character called Deira.
