What is Flash Fiction?
i ahev heard people referring to somethign called flash Fiction, what is it?

Thank you for your feedback Frank, C.S. Lewis & lisajane! I quite enjoyed Augur's comment. Just wondered what the distinction was between the two. I am now thinking there is little difference other then the fact that whoever came up with "flash fiction" liked the way it rolled off their tongue hence a new genre was born ...LOL Kidding, I now it holds much more merit then that.
I have come to the conclusion that my writing style is a fusion of prose, poetry & flash fiction so "flash prose poetry" will do...LOL

I think flash fiction is created by a lazy aspiring novelist who wants to feel like he accomplished something. But I like it though, something that can be...(Warning: embrace yourself for the aweful inevitable pun)...done in a flash.
If there are poetry slams, could it be possible to have flash slams?

Maybe call it "FLAM"? 
The trick in writing very short fiction is that many of the typical elements of a story are implied. Just a quick example is only writing out one side of a phone conversation. You greatly decrease the length of the piece, but have to write the half you do include such that the reader can guess as to what the other is saying.
One of the shortest notable pieces of fiction is by Hemmingway. I'm going by memory here, but think I've got it right - notice just how much of a very complex and emotional story is folded into just a few words.

There are plenty of flash slams online. Rusty Barnes, editor of Night Train magazine, runs one, but it's invite only.
