Plot Help

Ok, I think I have a good plot idea, but I wanted some feedback, so here goes.

Town/city is under siege
6 companions go out for help
Discover ancient undead army
Defeat ruler of undead army, gain army
Defeat army attacking city

Do you think that this is too cliche, or not?

Too simple, might be cliche if not done properly, by that I mean I'd throw some twists in there. Try making the story bigger than the city and the army- international politics or something. Give it a setting twist- maybe the city is built around the slave labor of mind-controlled giant insects or maybe the tech-level is higher than typical fantasy. As a sidenote I'd cut the number of companions down unless they're going to be pretty much the only characters in the story or you could give them each a major hook that eventually ties them in with the others.

Make yourself an unforgettable villain, we need some mix-up, don't make this feel epic maybe. There are a lot of epics but if you made this feel a bit more realistic, less grandiose it could be something rarer. Otherwise I think the plot is a good base idea, just spruce it up and make it your own.

could work as a light action story.
Like Bubba Hotep and Army of Darkness.

The basic plot outline doesn't really matter when considering "will it be good or not".

I mean, what's the plot to On The Road excpet "we went here and partied, we went there and got high etc". Old Man And The Sea? It's about well, an old man and the sea.

Also, as DOD said, cliche is as much a matter of writting. A big sewer dwelling spider terrorizing townsfolk? That's so 1950s b-grade movie! It's also Stephen King's "It". In fact, distill most any (especially early) King novel into a sentence or two and it'll seem very overdone. The point is that he didn't worry as much about finding a good idea, but found a fun idea and made it the best he could.

So, if the idea really appeals to you then go for it. If it turns out "cliche" then either consider it a learning experience and move on, or find the problems and rewrite it.
