Song Lyrics

I have a quick question regarding the use of song lyrics in a piece of fiction. Do we need to get permission? or can we just mention the artist that wrote the lyric?

Also if we need permission. How do we get it?

Yes, you have to get permission. Lyrics are copyrighted, just like any other piece of writing. Never had to apply for permission though, so can't help you with your second question.

how you get it is from the music publisher... google the song, find a site that lists the lyrics and gives the name of the publisher... then google the publisher for an address... then write and ask...
