Intro Problem

Ok, now I'm writing a fantasy type story, and I've been arguing with myself on whether I should start out with a battle scene or a non-violent scene to introduce most of my main characters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Write the story the way you'd want to read it.

Write both. Then decide which is better.

i'm gonna agree with aspiring, there are tons and tons of ways to open a story, the only thing you need to accomplish is to hook the reader.

Well, what are the pros and cons of each? I mean, if the fight scene will be there just to be a fight scene and hook the readers, then it probably shouldn't be there. If it's the trigger for the story, it still doesn't have to be there. You can start with the characters and have the battle scene mentioned.

But without examples of each, it's impossible to say anything. Write them both if you want, but I'd do pro/con thing of each first. Maybe you'll make your decision without having to write both.
