I use times new roman 12pt double spaced and have never had any complaint from any UK publisher or agent. I have never submitted in courier and no one from the business has ever told me to. It is more important that you use an easy to read font in a decent size and that your ms is always double spaced.

Last night I finished putting my book in ms format to send to a publisher. I used the outline that mammamaia gave me (it was very helpful! Thanks! ). Now my ms is ready. I need to think about what I am going to do about length now...

aspiring... i know that many writers use times new roman and i haven't said that's a no-no... but, from an editor's pov, courier is much easier on the eyes...

Yea, Ive already formatted my manuscript the way the link you gave me said to, mammamaia. Its in 12pt Courier, doublespaced, and is formatted the way it said to. I really appreciate that link, as it really helped a lot!

I agree, Courier is a little bit easier to read than TNR.

Times New Roman and Courier are equally acceptable by agents and publishers, but double spacing is essential. In my experience, 80,000 words is a minimum, with 100,000 as an average, but much longer manuscripts are welcome, especially if severe editing is required (as it often is). The final page layout, or page count, will not be relevant at the submission stage.
