is it too short?

Is ~100 pages (28k words) too short for a young adult novel? I have a very spare sort of style and I just can't seem to get my YA novel past this point without adding 'random filler' which I am loathe to do. The pacing feels pretty good to me, and there is quite a lot of conflict, a few subplots, et cetera, but I am just worried that an editor is going to say, 'too short'. Do you think this is the case? Do you know fo any YA novels that are fairly short (I expect it will be longer than 100 pages when in book form).

There's a really great ya series out there called the Spiderwick Chronicles.. they're seriously barely 100 pages in book form. As long as your content is good, you should be fine.

In 'book form', it should be somewhere between 150 and 200 pages, depending on font and page sizes. I wouldn't worry too much about the length, just, like vandolewriter said, make sure the quality is up to scratch and it will be fine.

Theoretically, it shouldn't matter. If your book is stonkingly brilliant then it won't matter. However, I have had a YA novel rejected because it was too short at 32k words. The minimum really is about 40k and the maximum somewhere around 70k. There will always be exceptions of course, but as a general rule, yes, 28k is too short.
