I'm working on a lot at the moment, i have a sci-fi short story about a group of soldiers who's job it is to clean up after apocalyptic battles. This i hope to adapt into a longer story as i think its awesome.

I am also sketching out my first ever romantic short story about an unlucky in-love guy who falls for the office slut.

I could see this being a better comedy than a romance why not make it a rom-edy? or a com-ance? lol. Sound like a really cute idea, but if it were me, It would be full of jokes. Of course, they'd be bad ones since I'm not that good with comedy Good luck with that!

Funny, I have a story on the go about an unlucky-in-love guy who has the office slut fall for him. Although it's a little dark to be classified as a romance.

heh, mine isn't exactly a romance either, its more about how the guy copes when he realises his best night ever was just for one night.

Currently I am writing a story of redemption, where the main character tries to redeem himself for past evils, by turning on his old associates. The story charts his changing from a heartless enemy of evil, into someone who actually cares about the war he fights; through love entering his life. All this is done in the context of a mixed-up fantasy kind of thing.

I will be putting the first chapter or so up for critique in the near future, so you can see if you like.

I'm writing a young adult novel about a 15 year old boy who falls in love with another 15 year old boy who has bipolar disorder.

And it's giving me a headache.

(sorry, I'm just a little cranky with one of my characters now...he is not behaving how he's supposed to).

Having tired of doing real-world stuff (a novel and about 10 pieces of flash will do that to you), I'm going back to my roots, speculative fiction.

In this case, it's a semi-cyberpunk type of thing done in an entirely Noir style. It takes the noir story arc and the nature of the narrator and puts it in a cyberpunkish setting. A little bit of philosophical and political shit thrown in just for kicks, but it's main about having fun.

I'm also resuming work on my serial, text-based comic book, space-opera.

That's the very best sign that you're writing something good. Misbehaving characters have been the cause of most of the best stuff I've ever come up with. Let him be himself ;p.

I'm moving 5,100 miles away in 3 weeks and will be between jobs, so I may be writing fulltime for a few months (oh man, we'll see how this goes... I'd really prefer not to, but it looks unavoidable at this stage).

What's the hardest thing to overcome? Personally, I tend to write too sparsely. After years of editing 1,000 word articles down to 700-800, it feels almost "wrong" to leave what I feel is "fluff" in a journalistic sense in a story. I'm just under halfway through the rough draft and I'm trying not to agonize over going back and fixing stuff - I've made a promise to myself that I won't go back and edit until I've finished the bulk of the rough draft. I'm just writing now, getting the basics down and then I plan to go back through it and add a little more internal monologue, some flashbacks, a little more description where the story needs it.

This is a neat topic, Samy. Glad you posted it. Hope the heat wave we have here isn't hitting you too hard
Haha thank you, and most unfortunately, the heat wave is near killing me, and I'm laying on my deathbed, breathing hard and crying for the return of winter. Yes, major exageration on my part. Anywho, back to the point. Urgh, I totally understand what you mean by "going back & re-looking things over." In all honestly, I am a horribly impatient person, but due to well given advice by inspiring writers and the patient persistence of years trying to grow up, (which everyone at my age struggles with obviously) I've finally learned only a year ago that patience is the key to success when wanting to write a story. While I'm writing, I feel the horrid urge to go back and revisit my every sentence and rewrite everything, but I KNOW that if I were to nit-pick over everything already written, I would NEVER get the story finished and thereafter, would lose interest because I was never getting anywhere with trying to revise everything. I've realized that if you keep going and have actually finished, you won't be sorry with the outcome even though you HAVE TO GO BACK ANYWAY, and re-do a whole lot of chapters that will certainly need RE-DOING. Duh. Despite the editing, you'll still have the triumphant of knowing you've finished it

I am currently writing a science fiction story that takes place in the year 2993 AD. It's about a secretive, powerful, independent covert ops group, the masters of experimental technology, that use a vicious civil war to their advantage, and then one military officer's struggle to protect his family from this group because of the information he knows. This group is trying to obtain additional information and technology to expand their power and influence to work towards the ultimate goal...unfortunately, I haven't worked out all of the details on what this is. However, I have tons of side stories that I'm currently working on threading into the main plot, but overall it's still in the developmental stage, still working on fleshing out the plot and creating the settings (and especially some of the characters; characters are easier to create when you just let them write themselves). I thought I had a good grasp on it at first, but then I reached a dead-end and realized I needed to think it out some more before going on. I have a sort of controlled chaos to the plot development of my stories.

The main problem I have had with my story so far is that I just let my imagination run away on me. I come up with tons of ideas and so much backstory that I sometimes lose my grasp on the main plot. It's only then that I realize that I have to slow down and begin focusing on the shorter term again...what the next scene in my story is going to be, for example. I feel like I'm good at characterization, but the problem is is that I've already created a group of core characters that I've become attached to, and I have problems introducing new characters into the story. I also just don't feel like I have that creative spark that I had when I started the story...but that's probably just because I've been a bit busy.

I'm currently developing a plot outline of a young-mid 20's man who lives in a small town. He is a gifted DJ and eventually becomes the main DJ of the popular night club at the nearest big city and basically becomes god like status and experiences the perils of fame and fortune. This goes to his head dangerously as he forgets his roots - family, friends, etc. Then, he has to struggle to redeem himself.

This is kind of branched out from another story idea I had. Whereas this time I will focus on one character instead of a large group and have their stories spread throughout. We'll see how this works out, I want to do it.

I'm working on a middling-length poem right now. The beginning and end came quickly enough, as did the theme and how I want it to go. The actual words in the middle are coming slow though - may have to put it up for a little and return to it with fresh eyes.

For non-fiction, I've got a series of essays on sustainable agriculture tumbling around in my brain. No rush though. My goal is to have them done in time for next summer's farmer's market so we can sell chapbooks to our customers.

Most recent fiction is a flash piece I wrote a couple days ago. It'd make a great ending to a coming-of-age story though.
