Movie writing

Hello everybody. I was wondering if there is a how-to on writing movie scripts. I had a handy one but all of my bookmarks went the way of Old Yeller by mistake, so I lost my tutorial. I was wondering if anyone had one that they liked so I could study it.

Haven't got anything on writing screenplays, but I do have a good ebook on practical DV filmmaking.

Mamma,

Do you post on any screenwriting discussion boards? I swear I got some advice from you a couple of years ago when I was still into writing screenplays and participating on another board.

Sorry to say that I didn't keep up with it... so I've stuck with putzing around with short stories for now. To be honest the two scripts I wrote never would have been made into movies, they made better books.

Back to the topic on hand: There are a TON of good screenwriting books. Too bad I can't think of the name of any of them. I did all my formatting with the aid of Final Draft, which is a rather pricey but well worth it screen writing program. The demands of the format were a little too much for me to just try and write a screenplay on word.

yes, mr b... i've been posting on imdb for years... and used to do so on twoadverbs, which imo is the absolute best one on the web for serious aspiring screenwriters...

the only reason i don't any more, is that the folks there have plenty of good help and imdb is in dire need of same, having only a few regulars with any decent level of expertise/experience... since the rest of my day is devoted to dealing with all the work sent to me by aspiring writers looking for help, i have to keep the number of forums i monitor daily down to a precious few...

as for affordable formatting, did you know you can download a script template from ms?... it's nowhere near as costly as final draft, but ok for the occasional dabbler or those who aren't ready yet to commit to the expense of using professional quality tools...

for how-to recommedations, email me and ask for 'tools of the trade' list...

love and hugs, maia

No, I did not know about that template. I believe I got my dollar's worth out of the amount I used Final Draft when I was working with it. I think that's some good news for those who might want to dabble though, since Final Draft and other programs like it will set you back a couple of hundred bucks.
