I'm co-writing a novella with a fellow creative writing major friend. We're alternating chapters. The biggest frustration is that we have to wait for each other to finish one chapter before moving on to the next. At some points during the week, I really want to work on the story, but his chapter's not done yet. The problem is that we've been slightly deviating from the outline, so writing the chapters out of order might end up being a lot of wasted effort.
Another big problem is that while our styles are similar, our descriptiveness and level of details are not the same. This will be changed later, but we are doing this as a final project for a class we're taking, so getting it done is more important than making it ready to publish. (The teacher will love it either way, so we're not worried)
I enjoy writing with him, because we have so much in common and we're both good writers, but I don't think I know anyone else with whom I'd ever want to co-write something. There'd be major creative differences.
