Writing Group

Just a quick question.

I'm planning on attending a writing group at my local library this Saturday. It doesn't cost anything so I figure I've nothing to lose. So I was wondering if anyone here, who has attended such a group, has found them useful? What kind of things can I hope to come away with?

Cheers.

What kind of group is it? Will there be a moderator/leader? Is it a workshop-format group (in which you share and comment on each others' work)? Is it a learning group (in which you'll be doing writing exercises)? Is it a combination of both?

I believe it's a combination of both. Although I think it steers more towards writing exercises as opposed to writing critique.
