There is tons of "softwear" out there for writers.

I personally prefer flannel pajama bottoms, fluffy slippers and an oversized soft sweatshirt.

Depends on what you are looking for. For word processing then the ones already mentioned work just fine (I prefer Word myself). I also use a program called WhizFolders (http://whizfolders.com/) for organizing and cross-referencing story plots, characters, etc. It works well and its cheap.

There are actually a lot of software tools out there, although I've only tried a few myself. (StoryCraft Pro is a stinker LOL). I'd suggest you do a Google search on "writing software". If you're looking for something to dig in deeper to your writing and help you improve, StyleWriter (http://www.editorsoftware.com/stylewriter/index.html) is a pretty cool plug-in for MS Word that acts like having your own personal editor examinig your writing. They have a demo you can download.

The last one I'll mention is "Dragon Naturally Speaking" for speech recognition. It also plugs into MS Word. The way I use it is I have a handheld digital recorder that I talk into when I'm driving or away from the PC. Then I plug it in to the PC, press play, and Dragon transcribes my notes into Word. Its about 95% accurate, so works well to get the majority of it into text format. Its not cheap though. The software is about $200 and a decent recorder with about 9 hrs worth of record time will run you around $100.

Hope this helps!

Even if price ISN'T an issue. It's just about the best word processor available.
