I prefer writing in compostion books with a medium ballpoint pen. Music's always helpful to set a mood for a scene and I actually like to talk out scenes and dialogue so everything flows togther well and sounds like a real conversation. I don't really think they're ritual but they're the closest thing I've got.

Nothing seems to work other than sitting down at the computer and staring at the keyboard for a while until something comes to me. I used to have rituals such as loosening up and pouring my favorite drink then putting on my fav music. These days I'm doing well to get in 30 minutes of not necessarily inspiration...

Rituals? No. Except sitting down at the computer, turning it on, and typing. That's the ritual of my life, right there.
Inspiration? Yes. Someone mentioned rain. Definitely. I like video-game and movie soundtracks playing while I write, and I can listen to different ones depending on the mood I'm writing in. Moderately loud, otherwise I can't hear my thoughts.

Rituals...well...I suppose.

I usually type in word all the time, so I have to have music on (my fav is Tocatta and Fugue) then I have to check my e-mails, check here, look at a few websites, then close everything down and open Word.

For comming up with ideas, I would normally pace up and down the room, stare out of the window, get a drink, pace some more (even if an idea has come to me, I will always finish this)
and then sit down to write.

Works like a charm!

Having something to drink really helps. Also, I cannot, for the life of me, write on paper. I have to use a computer, unless it's just a little snippet of my story (like an important 1-page section). Sometimes music helps, sometimes it's irritating. The sound of rain and thunder really help as well, but since I'm downstairs far away from any window I can hardly ever hear rain pounding on the house or windows, although if I could it would help me a lot. I also see no point in starting to write if I don't have at least a half hour dedicated to it. In fact, I'm in a great writing mood right now, but unfortunately I have to leave in 20 minutes.

i personally always write with music that sets the mood. other than that the only thign i do is find it impossible to write with someone in the same room.
