I, like Oracle above, try to pick names that are easy to read and pronounce, and easy to remember.
Long names, names that sound alike (no matter if there is a logical reason) are something I try to avoid. It might be that in real life names sound alike in one country, but if you notice; names from an unfamiliar country sound similar and are hard to keep apart at first (and in fantasy the setting often is an unfamiliar country). First over time, often years, one starts to get familiar with the names.
Since I doubt (and hope) a reader would not spend this much time reading my story, I focus more on understanding and the story, rather then logic and linguistic realism or whatever to call it ^^
But this is just my style; I am sure in other kind of stories and writing styles can benefit from longer, more complex names and similarities in-between them, but if it does not help the story or you to make your point… nah.
