'best' is relative, maia [welcome, namesake!... feels funny writing to 'myself']... most writers aren't so inclined, with good reason... on the physiological side, it takes a really 'buff' hand to be up to that much penwork...

plus, i don't know any editors who wouldn't cringe at the sight of 100k worth of handwritten pages plunked on their desk!... i wouldn't advise trying it, unless you're already a major god of the best-seller lists...

love and hugs, maia [the earlier one]

I usually end up with an A3 poster plastered up on the wall connecting people and major scenes.

I write every where on almost anything. I try to keep paper with me where ever I go, but I forget sometimes. I also like to use the computer to revise my work.

I almost always write on my PC, only resorting to paper & pencil when I'm technologically disabled... I always try to have a notebook or something handy though for those ideas that pop out of nowhere...

When I'm travelling, I tend to write longhand, in my notebook.

When I'm at home, 9 times out of 10 I'll use my desktop computer. Every now and again I'll write a scene in my notebook if I feel like curling up in bed instead of sitting up to write. For some reason, I find it almost impossible to write using my laptop.

The important thing for me is trying to write a little something every day, regardless of where/how I write it.

I use paper for ideas, notes, character background, and plotting. I like to use the computer for the actual writing though. It's alot easier to edit.

Notebooks are fun, especially little legal pads that make everything fly by. When at the comp it's headphones and music that fit the atmosphere of what I'm writing and no one looking over the shoulder. I'm like a wolf on those things, very territorialish.

i will ponder over an idea for many days going over the basics, then if i choose to pursue the idea i will make rough notes about the world, weaponry, creatures, places, and of course the basic plotline. If i still like the idea i will make the in depth plot outline for the first chapter and go from there. I always type when i am actually writing.

Technology can be hampering. For the most part I use one notebook for all my writing/ideas/ramblings, and carry it around with me everywhere. It gives me a lot of freedom with my writing--a blank word doc, unlike a blank page, says 'English essay!' instead of 'Your novel!' I actually prefer editing on paper too, because I can see what I changed. The computer is mostly used for storage and typing up finished segments of my stories.

I wear paper clothes and I wear pens in my hair.
No, actually, I have a journal (diary type thing) and I usually keep a pen/paper combo handy (either in my pocket, purse, whatever I find). I seem to have a knack for losing small notebooks.

Most of my writing is done on paper, but occassionally I use my laptop.

I'm sure this has been talked about before, but how to you write? On a computer or in long-hand, or both?
To answer your other question, yes I do carry around a notebook (before than used any paper handy).

From notebook, the idea goes onto the computer.

Then it's write, write, write - edit, edit, edit.

Then printed in 1.5 spaced lines, in as large font as I can efficiently get away with.

Then more editing of this "final", paper draft as I find problems (updating the computer file when I get in the mood).

I always brainstorm and write drafts on paper, usually a big unlined notebook to give more freedom. I've tried brainstorming on the computer and that usually just ends up in being on the internet or seeing which wallpaper looks best on the desktop. I type things up only when I'm sure I sure type it up (ie I have the complete idea) Also, I write in pen when in my notebook so I feel obligated to whatever I write and I cant erase it. Using a pen instead of pencil makes a big difference.

I write free hand most of the time. I don't have a PC at the moment because I haven't bought my own yet and I use all the computers on campus. I have a journal that I take with me every night. If I stay in the dorms I leave it there, if I go to the parents house, I take it with me. I also have a binder that I take with me all the time, just in case I have ideas to write down during the day. But here soon I will be mostly using a laptop. Except for the journal, that will always be done free hand.

I write using my computer just because it's easier and convenient. I am a college student so I always have paper on me and if I come up with an idea then I jot it down. I also have specific notebooks that I have notes for my current story in.
