Condjuntion dilema
That is supposed say Conjunction Dilemma. I used the edit and it only is editing this part, not the topic area.
OK gang, here's the deal. I am in a conjunction dilemma.
Conjunctions are used to seperate independent clauses. Well would if it a normal sentence with a clause and a phrase? Does the sentence still get the comma before the conjunction? Let me know please, thanks.

Hi, Simone. I don't completely understand your question. If you had a specific sentence you could give as an example...
Anyhow, maybe this page answers your question: http://www.getitwriteonline.com/archive/020204.htm

Give me the sentence and I can tell you, otherwise I can't. I'm a instinctual grammarist, not a technical one

Youz guyz, there are specific rules on this. You don't just base your opinion on the particular sentence, lol.
Maybe someone else will know, in the meantime I will look up your link. Gosh, you should probably look up conjunctions on the internet search and you will understand my question.

Gosh, maybe you should look them up, then you wouldn't have to ask the question. The above kind of suggests you assume the people who tried to help you are as ignorant as you are, Simone. That's not nice. Learn to get along, or we'll take your toys away.

also, the question originally asked is mangled to a point where it makes no sense...

see what i mean?... what is that supposed to mean?... basically, conjunctions do call for a comma before them... so, if you have something following 'but' or 'or' or some such, a comma would normally precede it...
btw, you can correct the misspelled 'condjuntion' and 'dilema' [2 'm's]in your topic head, by hitting the 'edit' button... hugs, maia

It's this sort of thing that will get you flamed in a heartbeat, though I won't be the one to do it.
While I don't think you meant this in an offensive way, it might be taken as an insult. That's generally not a good idea, when you're on a forum full of writers.

Never assume. Some of us just might, when it comes to grammar.
That said, welcome to Writing Forums. And happy New Year.

Actually, Simone, although there are rules for the use of commas with conjunctions, a lot of things in grammar do depend on context(as my writing prof has drilled into me the past semester). However, you should always use a comma with a conjuction. When using "and" as a conjunction this is especially important, since neglecting it can lead to blurred sentence meanings.

Simone wants an answer to a question, but he doesn't seem to understand that his question is fuzzy.

I learned the rules on this when I was in primary school. Which is about forty years ago (literally)! Having learned conjunctions, clauses, phrases and so on when I was about seven or eight, I just 'know' how to put them into practice. It's funny what forty years of experience does to the way you write!

I did look it up, I wouldn't have asked if I hadn't and wasted their time. I was telling them they could look up the usual rules on this if they wanted, which I already know. I am trying to find the answer to something totally different, not found in the usual punctuating sites.
I said in the beginning, I already know about how conjunctions normally work. I need to know how they work in any old normal sentence, but with conjunction words in the sentence also. Not joining two independent clauses as the usual rule states.
Basing an opinion on the particular sentence though isn't what we were taught in school, at least I wasn't. If you only based commas on a particular sentence only, all of the sentences would be different depending on the mood. Of course I always appreciate anyone's help anyway.
Also, please don't be so sensitive. I was laughing about their questions. I said uze guyz or something like it, and something else pretty silly, as well as laughing. I won't participate if anyone tries to start a flame with me over something as silly as this. Life is way too dang short.
He, be a she. I'm a fuzzy girl, not a fuzzy guy. Hey! Who took the smiley faces, you fuzzy people, can't find em.

That's the advantage of experience. It sounds like we're similar in age. I don't remember any of the rules, but I never get them wrong!
