Story Flow

This is one of the biggest problems I'm running into right now. I know were I want to go with my stories but they seem to lack a certain flow. Everytime I write it is very choppy. Does anyone have any advice on how I could stop this?

i guess you should just keep writing the story and altering it to make it flow better and better, when i first write bits they always sound horrible, wasnt it hemingway or some one that said first drafts are shit?

I agree with Avarice. Keep writing and revising and you will develope as a writer to the point where your first drafts won't be so choppy.

Hi, Casper. I'll also agree with that. If I understand what you're saying, it's just zero-draft quality and perhaps a little inexperience. But give thanks that you can tell whether the writing is good or not. If you couldn't tell, it would be infinitely harder to fix. My guess is that if you keep writing and keep reading and keep thinking, you'll grow much better over time and much faster.

You can try to emulate the style of a writer you admire. This may gain you insight into that style and help you improve your own. (But you do need to establish your own style. Emulating someone else's is just a way to stretch yourself.)

I also highly recommend Patricia O'Connor's book Words Fail Me: What Everyone Who Writes Should Know about Writing. This is an excellent, easy to read, and advice-packed book.

Keep writing,
