Adverbs rock. In fact, adverbs rock so much that Schoolhouse Rock featured them in a song! Remember how it goes?

"Lolly, Lolly, Lolly, get your adverbs here..."

It is correct to say that adverbs are definitely justified in the dialog within a story, however, they must be kept out of the narrative. When reported voice
Quote:
Susan seemed transfixed. Pull the switch, John! John barely stirred.
is carried by narrative, then adverb participles -ingly may sound acceptable.
