don't despair, jordan!... having his school 'pay for 1,000' copies to be published [sic]' does NOT = 'being published'... that's being 'self-published' since nobody paid him to print his work... any idiot with a box of crayons, stick of colored chalk, or quill pen and hand-ground ink can do the same with their own drivel...

so, don't waste your envy on this kid... save it for the one who gets a million-dollar advance for a first novel! ...

love and comforting hugs, maia

Just think of it this way- if there are people lame enough to read that dribble, do you want them reading your work? Personally, I have trouble with the fact that Harry Potter has done so well. Barely any of Rowling's ideas are original, but actually borrowed material rearranged into a story of a "chosen" boy. It all boils down to what people want to read, even if it is dribble. Just keep writing because one day, your writing may be discovered and cherished.

So? Ideas are nothing.

It's difficult for me to say because at 16, I myself had the oppoprtunity to get my book published, though I didn't finish it in time.

I think it's based purely on circumstance. Also, the kid had his entire school newspaper backing him, so that was a big deal.

Also, just because he gets 1000 stories printed, doesn't mean he's going to get a book deal...
