Terrorism novels, do you find them relevant or just tedious?

I've taken a year out of school to write a fiction novel about terrorism, the only kind of stuff similar that I can think of would be Black Sunday or Rainbow Six, do you find those kinds of books good to read? Or do you just shun them in book stores. I'm asking because I want to know if people would be interested in my style of book or just bored with it.

I don't think I would be interested in a terrorism novel at all. I've seen more of terrorists than I have wanted to on the news. The ONLY exception would be the fictionalized/non-fiction accounts of an actual Special Ops/Counter-Terrorist and his experiences while engaged on clandestine ops. I can assure you that I'd have no desire to read such a book from a kid who doesn't know what he's talking about from personal experience, or a consumate professional who is writing from a knowledge gained by in-depth study.

People lapped up US/Soviet spy novels during the Cold War, so I don't see why it would not be popular, a priori. Because we all live in an age of 24 hour news, political blogs, and instant information, you need to be very solid on the details when it comes to terrorist organizations, how they work and some such.

That can't be stressed enough. People will always read such novels when they are well put together and well researched.

Another option you could try is writing metaphorically. For instance, when we had all the alien invasion stories of the 50's it wasn't actually about alien invasion it was about communism, the threat of communism or even the perceived threat of communism. By moving your story to a metaphor level you could still say what you want to say about terrorism but the research wouldn't have to be so detailed.
