Geography - Google Earth.

Just a little hint to anyone interested in knowing the geographic locations of their stories to the "T".

Take a look down at http://earth.google.com/. It's a program that runs a digital render of the planet earth, the pictures are from several different satellites, some are more precise than others, but in most parts of the United states you can find your house and see the car in the driveway and the neighbor walking the dog...

Point being, I use it for my prose, it's easy to use, efficient and accurate when you need to find things reffering to distance or locations on the globe.

The best part is that the pictures can be clear to the point where you can use them to help you describe the dark alley your character just walked down. If someone from that local area ever reads your story he would probably recognise the areas of importants if you describe them via the information on Google Earth, which brings amazing realism to the storyline.

Anyway, just a heads up to any writers out there.

Enjoy.

Good suggestion, I hadn't thought of that.

I'm going to ask a mod to move this to Writing Tips.

According to Google Earth, nobody lives in Darwin, Western Australia, or Tasmania. (Australian startes and territories for anyone who doesn't know). The only states you can see into in high detail (of the city and suburban areas) are Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia (to a far lesser extent. You can only see the city and some suburbs.)... I forget if they included areas in Queensland.

But being able to look at anywhere else in the world is pretty cool though. You can even look up specific streets in some places. Very nice.

Yes and considering my current pro "On a Gehenna Wind" starts in Australia, I'm having some tough times figuring some of that stuff out.

Luckily two of my writers are wonderfully beautiful Australian girls that can make up for that loss

I love Aussy women
