I write a little in the afternoon but, like you, I mostly write late at night, although this has little to do with not having people burst into the room as much as my inability to write anything significant until 11:00 PM. Actually, yesterday was an aberration; I did a lot during the afternoon and little at night, but I suppose night writing took a rare sabbatical. I've actually never fallen asleep during writing in my memory, even though I often write (or at least try to) until the middle of the night, and actually don't come close to sleeping, but I have trouble doing so unless I'm in the comfort of my bed and willing myself to sleep. That's another reason why I have so much trouble sleeping in cars and planes when I really want to.

How much to write

I'm usually working on more than one story at a time, so I go between
stories.

I also don't go by the amount written, I'm forced to go by time spent
writing. Right now I'm on summer vacation so I can write whenever I want.
But school is starting soon and my time will be at a premium. I have
on son entering middle school (6th grade) and my other son is starting
10th grade in HS. I have household concerns, dinner, HW etc, etc.

So if I am to have to write , I have to make the time, which usually means
getting up an hour earlier or staying up an hour later. I find that because I know I have limited to write that I'm more productive.

I used to believe this too. But really if you're sitting long enough in front of your computer and dare to write crap underneath the story you hold so dear (keeping in might, you can always delete it afterwards), you might get into the right 'mood' to write properly and eventually - after you have written a bunch of junk - you might be able to write something down that is not quite that awful.

(This experience I got from NaNoWriMo which opened my eyes for many methods to go on writing when you're stuck, many of which I never dared to use before).

I don't really have a quota for how many words I write a day. Sadly, the best time for me to write is between midnight and 5 in the morning. So when school starts, it makes it very difficult. But on a regular day, I would think that I would put out at least 1500, if not 2000 words. But only if the midnight inspiration hits me in the head and yells "WRITE DAMNIT!!!"

ladybard... fixing goofs is easy... there's an 'edit' button on the upper right of your posts... all you need do is click on it and either fix mistakes or delete the whole thing and leave it blank, if you posted in duplicate, as happens to all of us now and then...

hugs, maia
