What button am I hitting?
I'm hoping someone out there will know why this keeps happening. I don't watch the keyboard as I type, and sometimes, I'll slip and hit a button with my right hand. Since I'm not looking, I don't know which one it is. But when I go to edit, the new characters typed "eat" the old characters... Really annoying when all I want to do is add a comma or plural. The only way to get it to stop is to save, close the document and reopen it. I'm using "Roughdraft", by the way.
It's probably the program, those of you who are familiar with it, perhaps you can tell me why it changes the font color to white sometimes? That's a pain, when you suddenly find you're missing a paragraph, rewrite it, only to discover it's there but "invisible"...

You're hitting "insert". It's the button to the right of 'Backspace".
If you hit it a second time it'll go back to normal.
The "eating" of the letters is overwriting. If you're using word, look at the bar at the bottom of the program and hit 'Insert' a few times and you'll see "OVR" appear and dissapear. When it's there the characters'll be written over.
When it's not, you're good.
Hehe, I do the same thing all the time : )

thanks guys! it has happened to me a million times before and I never knew what the hell was going on. I used to save, close the document and re-open it to go back to normal... now I finally know what to do to make it go away!!!!

since i use a media keyboard, my insert key is to the left of the delete key, so it's a big pain for me, too... plus, it's right under the ?... so, i've a double chance of hitting the verdammt thing, if i slip...
what i'd like to know is has anyone here ever used it on purpose?... i find no reason whatsoever to ever need the pesky li'l devil and wish it would just disappear...

Well, I do use it sometimes when I am doing my coding.
If I have a word 'xyz' and want to change it to 'abc', all I have to do is put the cursor just before 'x' and type 'abc'. That way, I don't have to explicitly press the delete key.
And yeah, I have had my share of troubles too! But, since I know that its because of hitting 'Insert', its ok.
