I know how ya feel. About a year back, I wrote a short story, which I have just recently started turning into a manga^_^, which I loved sooooo much back then, because I thought it was so cool how I had brought everything together. I was so proud of myself, and thought there was nothing left to do with it, so I just left it as it was.
I come back to it about a month ago, and I hate the way I wrote it...I mean, I love the plot and all, but I hate the writing style I used back then...It just seems very....gradeschoolish I could say....lol
So, in transfering it into manga form, it was a great refreshment for me. I was able to rebel from the crap style I used, and really make it the way I want it. Since it is only a short story, the manga wont be too long, so it will be nice to have...Though Ill probably hate it two years from now, hahaha.

As long as the reverse doesn't occur, you're okay.
I mean, if you were to read some of your older work and suddenly realize that it's great compared to your newer stuff, then you've got some issues. But going back through your old stuff and finding it to be not as good as your newer stuff only means you've gotten better.
That's usually a good thing.
I wouldn't be depressed about it, or even bother re-writing it (unless you really like the plot). Start on something completely new.

"Manga" is the Japanese style of comic books/strips, just as "anime" is the Japanese style of cartoon shows. Manga interests me more than western style comics, which would be Superman and Green Lantern for example, so often times I will turn one of my past short stories into a short manga series, usually just maybe 10 chapters, maybe 8 or 9 pages per chapter.

Another way to fix the "writing transition/quality change during the course of the novel" problem is, as long as you have a good idea of what is going to happen in your novel, write the beginning of each chapter or just at random points at which you feel like writing because you can pick up the book later on continuing in the same style as you go over it again. Just as reading a different author for a while can change your writing style if you like theirs, being reminded of your own style can be easily done and very beneficial to keeping your book in strong form.

"so perhaps my writing ability's developed at faster pace"
TAngential to the discussion, but you know, this makes me think of... er... age skewing. Like, when you're three and you know a six year old, he's twice as old as you are and effectively a god. When you're 19 and he's 22, he's just some other guy at college.
So, age. You learn to speak English starting early and life and you get it down pretty well pretty quickly. However, you're like, five, so it took a proportionally longer period of your life to learn it than, say, german at age 20, which might take four years, but a smaller percentage of your total lifetime.
Hm... "The hills always seem bigger when you're younger." Yes.
