So I'm about at the part where she's going to be kidnapped and I've decided that the bf will get knocked out and she gets taken.

What I can't decide is whether to have the others be awake or not.

Here are my two ideas:

1. They wake up to her screaming as she's being taken away, but they can't follow because her bf is unconcious and bleeding and needs to be taken care of.

2. They wake up to find her gone and the bf is unconcious and bleeding and they do not know what happened and must wait for him to regain conciousness (which would happen quickly).

Which one do you think sounds more interesting? Why?

Thanks!!

Racheal

I'm thinking number two. It gives them room to speculate what could've possibly happened.
Though, screaming is always good, and might be a bit more realistic.

An idea, though it might not work for you:
The girl might get in an arguement with the guy, and she goes to sleep away from camp; the boyfriend goes to apologise to her.

The boyfriend arrives just in time to see her being kidnapped; he rushes in to save her.

Switch to the other person's point of view.

He/she hears screaming, rushes of there, finds the girl missing, the guy wounded.

Good luck, it sounds like a good story.

Verago: I really like the scenario, but I want my novel to stay with my main character the entire time.

Any ideas on how to make that scenario work without switching pov?

Racheal

P.S.

The main character it neither the bf or the girl being kidnapped, she's one of the other sin the group who would be asleep.

I just wanted to post quickly because I'm very excited.

I just completed the 13th chapter (14th with prologue) and will be starting the kidnapping scene!

Monsters and all that

The things that kidnap her are basically savages. People who were driven to the brink of madness and look human, but are animals in their minds.
Hi, RG. I like the way your kidnapping scene is turning out, but I can't help but wonder, what makes these monsters...well...monstery? What gives them the ability to pull this kidnapping off? I imagine at this point in the story, your characters are pretty tough, so they're not likely to be taken unawares, especially if they had encounters with similar creatures before. Beasties that are basically insane savages are gonna charge in and do their business by force in a mad attack most likely, so it's hard to see them being successful without waking anyone.

So, do these monsters have special abilities/powers? Are they serving/are connected to someone/something with sorcerer skills? Can they toss some dust or cast a spell that can make people sleep for hours? I think their special abilities, which should differentiate them from the protagonist's group (I am assuming the group consists of humanoids), would make their successful effort more frightening and credible. Use some scary power of theirs to add spice to the scene.

Hope that helps. I wish you well on your story!

Another notion...this time about how the BF got injured: Going along the lines of them under some sort of sleep spell, what if BF is holding the girl close to him as they sleep? Maybe, he dreams of the kidnapping as it's happening since his love for her connects them somehow, or he dreams of a past tragedy that evokes a violent reaction. His body body acts accordingly by fighting back, and the creatures have to mess him up a bunch to make him stop. Doesn't have to be a physical injury...maybe an emotional or mental one.

Bordering on the cliche here, but maybe it's a seed for another idea about how he got wounded.
