i agree with Metal Dog.
I don't think there is anything wrong with reused storylines, because at the end of the day you're a whole different person who is telling it, and you will bring something new to it if you tell it well enough.
Cliche phrases I would definatly look out for. As our russian formalist friends would advocate, describe things as if it were the first time you have ever seen or experienced them, defamiliarise your reader with what they may do habitually in their mundane lives, describe it in a new way and your story will seem fresh and buzzing, even if its a story that has been told a thousand times before.
