Advise About Publishers?

As I posted elsewhere on this board I am writing a book. The book is a detailed record of every professional wrestling pay-per-view produced by World Wrestling Entertainment, going right back to their first one in 1985!

(Laugh, go ahead, but professional wrestling is a multi-billion dollar industry.)

I've spoken to a writer who has had three books published on the subject of professional wrestling and he advised me that I should start approaching publishers before I finish the book.

Another writer who writes poetry books said that I should never approach a publisher until I have the finished manuscript.

This book is unique, nothing like this has ever been done before. The other wrestling books on the market are all autobiographies and books on the state of the industry from a fans view.

My mind has wondered already and I have about another five titles lined up in my head to follow this book.

Is it a good idea to wait until you have finished writing the book before approaching a publisher? It may sound like a newbie kind of question, but then again that is exactly what I am.

with fiction, you do need to have a finished work before querying, but with non-fiction, you can submit a proposal and sometimes even get an advance, before the book is completed... but you still have to provide some sample chapters and a chapter outline...

the key to success in your case, is writing a good proposal... you can get all kinds of info on how to do that by googling...
