When and where to write
When and where do you people do your writing?
This has probably been done countless times before and i'm not even sure it's in the right Forum but
Personally i write during the night (11pm to about 1am) i find my ideas come more easily at this time and also less people interrupt me. (I wonder why? )
I always write in my bedroom, in a corner sepecially organised for writing. i have pens, paper, dictionaries etc close at hand.
I would be interested to find out when and where you write.

Anywhere I can, but like you, I find that many of my best Ideas come at night, particularly near the a.m. hours. This is why I am adicted to cofee. I don't like to sleep during my best writing times.
At times, I also enjoy writing in the middle of my classes, once or twice I've woven stories into my notes, with the stories disquised under my cursive, and the notes in bold print...at a glance, no one would guess I was distracted....

In the early to mid afternoon, 1:00-5:00. I like this best because I am able to play music louder, and take lots of short breaks to stroll outside or whatever. Although I am a night owl, I cannot write past midnight, not sure why, it's just never worked. Probably because when I quit I go to bed and am still thinking up new ideas which I must get out of bed to write down, and I never sleep.

I normally write in my bedroom during the afternoon, though now I bring my writing notebook to school and I find it very easy to write (especially during one of my more boring classes).
Overall I would have to say my favorite place to write is my room, when no one will bother me and I can be alone.

normally I write after work, from 7pm until whenever I feel like going to bed, usually until midnight or so...
I have breaks every few hours, though, so I only write two or three hours a day...
and most of that is rubbish

I can usually write at any time, in any place, but I usually like to be comfortable, sitting at a table with and pen and paper in front of me. I'm usually the most creative between 9 PM-10AM, but sometimes I'll surprise myself at like 2:37PM!
I think most writers usually work during the night, because that's when the hustle and bustle of the day has subsided and you can focus on your ideas. It just seems to be a common thing between writers.......

I do most of my writing late at night as well, or early in the morning. I find I am at my best when most of the world is down and out. Coffee is a must, of course .
I do all of my writing on my computer, only because I can type fast than I can write freehand. I don't listen to classical music any other time, but when I'm writing I need music without lyrics -- something I can tune out but still absorb, if that makes any sense.
The friends who have seen the room where I do most of my writing usually gag at the decor. Chrismas lights, all sorts of odd pictures and artwork done by friends, candles...not sure why I feel I need all that going on in there, but I do. This is odd, but I have a special pair of gloves with the fingers cut out that I wear when I'm typing, and the window, even if it's winter and I have to wear a jacket in the house, absolutely HAS to be open.

Writing is a beautiful thing, and is no less hard than painting a masterpiece. A great artist doesnt work while kids are running around screaming . I wait until 12-2 AM to write. When my family is asleep and all the lights are off, a dimmed computer screen and a scented candle right next to my keyboard, for no better reason than to add to the coziness (sp?). I usualy have a cover wrapped tight around me, sitting in front of my computer. Sometimes getting a dose or two of nicotine.

I haven't actually written anything in a while . My new job means I have to be in bed by 9pm and up at 3am, which is the time I liked to write, free of distractions [provided I could get rid of my flatmate for a while].
I still haven't found a suitable time of day for writing at the moment.
*sigh*

I'm a nightowl, so I tend to write at night, though on occasion I'll do it in classes as well. ^_^

Thank you for all the replies, good to see i'm not the only one who never gets a full nights sleep.
Does anybody listen to music when writing if so who/what?
Somtimes i listen to a bit of light rock such as the Chilis to keep me awake (i don't like coffee) but never anything loud or heavy and always on my personal stereo (people don't like it when i use my speakers )

I listen to music a lot when I'm writing. Usualy to the band 'venus hum' since they've inspired me a lot in my writing. I listen to it just to block every thing else out, and so when i'm tihnking 'damn it what should I put now I can't think...' and I can hear this awsome music in my ears and sometimes just the sounds or the words and my head clicks and I know what to put. does that make any sence?

I like listening to movie scores or classical music while I write, it puts me into the mood.
I like writing during the early hours of the morning - even though I rarely write well during then. I just like the idea of staying up all hours writing.

Sometimes when I'm really stressed out my mind just shuts itself off and I get horrible writers block. In those situations sometimes listening to music for a while calms me down, back to where my thoughts can start flowing again.
But I rarely listen to it while I'm actually writing because it's a little bit distracting. Unless it's classical, of course. Classical music isn't distracting.
