Right, about, NOW...

Or if I can, soon after I wake up. This helps in loosening up my creative energies for the rest of the day.

I'll usually listen to music for an hour or so, most likely something that captures the mood of the story. As for what types of music, anything goes really. Chaotic prog rock to classical music. It doesn't matter to me.

I write constantly, even without a paper and pen in hand... AND I don't think that is what you are really asking... SOOOOOO

I write each morning - a writing practice based on Dorothea Brande's idea of Morning Pages (which has been further taught by Julia Cameron in "The Artist's Way and other books.)

My "more formal" writing needs to be flexible, given the style of my life.

Probably my biggest secret of writing success is that I can sit down for five minutes and work on SOMETHING. I always have something going and can almost always add to, revise, or tinker with, SOMETHING.

Otherwise I can come to forums like this and "chat a bit" which tends to help my other writing as well.

I usually write at night, and occasionally into the early morning, though this becomes a problem when I have to get up for work. However, I find myself constantly thinking about my story, no matter what time it is. Thankfully I'm able to remember most of my ideas until I get home, though I occasionally scribble notes on paper towels .

I always write in a notebook, something about the computer seems to "formal" to me. I find that my thoughts flow easier when I put them on paper. I also prefer to cross out my corrections instead of deleting them, allowing me to go back later and see what I've omitted.

I'm most comfortable writing when I'm spread out on my couch with my dog napping somewhere nearby. Thankfully, I live alone, as I remember quite painfully how difficult it was to concentrate on writing with a house full of people constantly moving around.

As for music, I absolutely can not listen to it as I write. I need silence. I guess that's how I got in the habit of writing so late at night.

Well, I for one have a difficult time finding a quiet place to write. My house is full of people all the time. I generally end up writing at two in the morning but, I do carry a notebook or my laptop around with me that way I can write anytime I get a muse around. I just haven't figured out how to write in the shower yet. Sometimes my ideas flow faster than the water when I'm taking a shower.

I prefer to write at night for the obvious reasons, but unfortunately my schedule pretty much makes sure that I can't - I need to be wide awake early in the morning and make through the day without falling asleep. Luckily though I think that I can resume the career of isolation and creation shortly in a year or two. Until that time comes I've made a compromise - I don't even try to write down actual stories, but rather continue making notes and doing the general dirty work - research.

I don't generally need quiet to write or think of ideas. I just seem to block out the rest of the world and start writing ideas inside my head. Kind of the same thing as being able to read in the car - I block out everything that's going on except for my book.

Same. Once I created a four page poem just standing in the shower and I wasn't even changed yet before I typed it all up.
