Nuts and Bolts Question

I have a really basic technical question and wonder if any of you have found a way to handle it.

In just the two years since I've been submitting my work for publication a lot has changed. Two years ago most publications accepted admissions only by snail mail. The standard format (for short stories) was double-spaced with indented paragraphs and one inch margins all the way around. Consequently, I now format my documents that way as soon as I start writing.

In just the past year or so, I've found that a lot more publications accept, along with postal submission or exclusively, on-line submissions. These can range from e-mail attachments, to submissions in the body of the e-mail to a special on-line submission form. In many cases this requires changing the format to single-spaced with no indentations and double spaces between paragraphs.

Has anyone found an easy way to change the paragraph formatting in Word? I know how to change the line spacing. That's easy, but is there a simple way to change from indented to unindented (with double spaces between) paragraphs or vice versa without having to play around with back spacing or returns? Not only is that tedious, but I'm afraid of missing one or two.

Talia_Brie is an unknown quantity at this point
On word, one of the toolbars allows for different formats. It's, (obviously) the formatting toolbar, and in the space to the left of the Font is a dropdown menu that should, when you open a new document, say Normal. When you hold the mouse over it it is called the Style box.

It is possible (Can't quite remember how it's done, unfortunately) to save your own formats to that list.

Which means you can setup a page to the format you want, then save it. To switch between, I suspect highlight the whole document and change it, same as you would the font.

Check with the help function. I typed in Format Style, and got enough responses to help I think. Also try typing Modify Style.

Good luck.

Hey, I'll try that next time. When I try to use Help, I never seem to come up with the right words.

Load the document
Highlight the entire document
Go to format >paragraph and set what you want.
Click OK.
I know this works on the newer Word programs.
