I mostly read cyberpunk and urban fantasy. If I can find it (which I have), I like a combination of the two. Its a little crazy and doesnt make much sense, but when it does you go "holy crap!"

cyberpunk is scifi having to do with computers, virtual reality, etc.---not star wars crap here. For example, The MAtrix is definitely cyberpunk. William Gibson was said to be the original cyberpunk writer.

My husband LOVES William Gibson. As for me...I like a lot of genres, but I guess fantasy would be at the top. Not just Lord of the Rings and things of that nature (though I do love that), but also things like Anne Rice (which I don't really consider horror). A good thriller is always fun too.

I enjoy horror and contemporary fiction. Is contemporary fiction a genre? I don't know, I just know that I buy a lot of books under the "contemporary fiction" sign at the book store.

Fantasy is my favourite genre. It's difficult for me to explain why I enjoy writing Fantasy, in fact I've never really questioned why I immerse myself in it so often. I think it has a lot to do with how and where I grew up. I've been fortunate enough to have always been surrounded (and to an extent comforted by) a verdant countryside. A lot of my own inspiration comes from things I've sensed or touched outside.
I'm also fascinated by human emotion and behaviour - a trait I believe strongly captivates the Fantasy genre.
Though to this day I have never experienced the same cosey, warm feeling of when my father used to read The Lord of the Rings by JRR. Tolkien to me while I sat on his lap. Perhaps my fascination with Fantasy is merely masked as a hope to recreate those golden feelings.
I am thoroughly enjoying David Gemmell's novels at the moment after rediscovering a dust covered copy of Waylander.

That's very interesting, stiltzkin. I am also quite captivated by emotion. In fact, when I write, I love to delve deep into the characters thoughts and feelings.

I think my own fascination with fantasy stems from the fact that I'm an only child. As such, I relied heavily upon my imagination to keep me company. And the world of fantasy provides so many opportunities. Plus, it's just plain fun to imagine all of the magical elements and the unique places and people.

Dumas and Stevensen are a couple of my favourites, just by the way

I'm into witty self-help/guide/handbooks and such right now. Eats, Shoots & Leaves (Lynn Truss) and In The Dressing Room With Brenda (Brenda Kinsel) are a couple I reccomend.

Thrillers are good. Crichton-style science fiction is enjoyable as well. Mostly though I stick with military history/biography.

I'll read more or less anything, without a serious preference. I tend to shy away from Harlequin romances.

At the moment, I'm pretty into Crime Noir. I guess I'm just at that phase in every man's life when he wishes he was a hardboiled private eye.

Fantasy, by a long shot.

As for why? Um, I think it's because Earth is grating on my nerves, I get enough of it everyday and I want something different - something that won't blow up because of all the junk in it.

But, I also like teen novels (sometimes, because I'm picky on them).

I hate all books with science and technology, I hate mystery because they always explain things at the end, and I don't want to try horror. Oh, and I hate contemporary fantasy with a passion, you have no idea.

General sci-fi and fantasy's my favorite. I like how you can mess around with worlds and invent things that you know is near impossible to do on our mundane Earth.
