Killing off main character?

I've been thinking of my novel's ending. It was originally going to end with the main charecter having a major attack of vertigo (she has meniere's diesease) and her sister returning home abruptly and so forth. But the more I think of, what about having her die? I mean, she dies and then the last chapter is told in her younger sister's point of view. Would this be to dramatic or even tacky? I've never read a story when there storyteller dies before the story's end but there may be a ton of book out there.

Any opinions on my idea?

Asking questions is fine, but eventually you have to sit down and actually write the story. Go ahead with your original idea, it sounds very interesting. If it does not work, you can always change it.
