As for the original post in this thread, no one will steal your work.

Writers have big egos, and we're too busy worrying about our OWN plots and characters to care about anyone elses. You don't see mothers running around stealing other women's babies. They already have enough diapers to deal with.

And as for non-writers stealing your work.. well.. what are they gonna do with it? Anyone can have an idea. It's doing the work and writing it out that seperates the dreamers from the .. uhh.. doers.. : D

I really hope this story gets posted soon, so I can steal it. I mean... not steal it.

So what, you're basically saying we're not good enough to be stolen from?

True, true...

When you post things on this site, it shows the date and time that it was posted. If someone steals your story, then print out the page with the date and sue them to get more money than you probably would have otherwise.

why you should trust us

as someone who works in television and media I can tell you that there are no new ideas. there are over four billion people in the world. the same ideas are constantly recycled. It's what you do with them that makes them yours, and it is highly unlikely that anyone is here to steal your actual words.

ps - some of the posts here are incorrect. you cannot copyright an idea. By law, ideas in creative forms are not copyright-able. the specific form of expression (i.e. your words) can be copywritten. You are free to make a movie about an evil empire roaming through space while a band of rebels fights them - but you can't take images, dialogue, or music from Star Wars. Specific expression = copyright. Ideas = no copyright.
