Saving to Read Only Files...?

I just transferred a MSWord doc file from a 3.5 disk to a CD-RW, although the original file on the disk was checked as an "archive" file when I now try and save to the CD it tells me I can't, that it's a "read only" file. What do I need to do differently on the next file transfer so I can re-write on the CD-RW?

Thanks in advance.

There are only two reasons that I know of which states read only file.

One is when I have not saved it to word before doing another action. Try saving it to word and then saving from word on to CD.

The other is when the system is networked with other users and one of them has the same file open. They then have to close their file for me to enter and work on or save file.

Altough I am not an expert - I hope this is of some use.

Vanessa's got it right. I used to do that all the time on my old PC. If you save to the disk before you save it to word it screws everything up. If I recall in order to work on the file again I used to copy and paste my old document into a new document and then re-name it.

I'll try pulling it off the original disk again then saving to word first then the cd, right?

I may confused the question, but files on cd and cdrw are usually protected (read only) I'm not sure if new software allows you to write to the middle of a cdrw, but old ones usually didn't, which meant you could add to the CD but not modify it. This was usually fixed by adding the date to the file you wanted to save. FileA_2004_05_05.doc or something.

Hope it helps
