Question for HAVOC (The guy with the tiger)

Ok, firstly thanks for readin this. I am also writing a novel at the moment. I'm 16 and its my first one. I have based it in the Viking period although Its not historical but rather a heroic quest story with a twist.

Anyway, I noticed that you have written some stories too. I just wanna ask you how you managed to write 50 pages when u r not even half way through your book. Please help me.

Thanks very much! If you have any other tips for a beginning writer then plz share!

Well eh... thank you for addressing this to me . Im kinda suprised you asking this to me, I think there are a lot of other peeps around here who have much more experiance in writing than I do, but Ok, il try to help ya.

You asking how I got to 50 pages makes me think you try to reach a certain page number while the story itself may not support that at all.
I always used to do that with my first 2 story (still do ever now and then, but I try to get off it), but a good story does not exist out of many pages, a good story has a good story line, believeble characters, nice enviorments and a valuable lesson. If you balance all those things out, and the length of the story permits it, you can reach 50 pages with ease.
But if you have a story that is about someone's afternoon, you can't ever reach 50 pages without having to start repaeting things, or making it all boring. So it realy depends on the length of the story.
My story is pretty long by itsself, Im planning to devide it into 3 parts, and currently im at page 79 if the first part.

I might be able to give you some tips or tricks, but as said, I think there are more experiencd ppl on this forum and besides that, every writer has his own style.

Well ok, first off. Don't make the story's intro to long. Here is a quote I found here on the forums and it makes sence.
Quote:
A story starts at the point of change in your main characters live.
Ofcourse you can tell a little about the characters and stuff but don't write about every day in a 3 month period before the real adventure begins.

Let your character visit propper locations. A story taking place at one place is boring 9 out of 10 times unless your writing a story about a hostage taking.
Discribe main locations in detail, don't be afraid to fill half a page with a location discription. But do mind where you put it though, if a character come's running into a new room he doesnt know with the police right behind him, hes unlikely to pay attention to his surroundings in detail. So whenever you want to discribe a location, make sure the circumstances of the character are right to do it.

And a big tip is: Don't let your good guy be all good and your bad guys all bad. Your main character has to have some bad side's as well, if only it is a bad habit such as smoking. And along with this the bad guys have to have some good side's as well.

Well, I hope I helped ya. If you want to know something els just ask, not only to me but also to the other members.

Good luck!
