writing, where it starts

write honestly, what's on your mind, or in your heart... If there's nothing coming from either, then put that down.

the writing goes better for me when I say what I think and feel, rather than what I think people might prefer to hear from me

When I write best, that is how I write. That is how I believe most of the truly awesome pieces of writing of all time have come about; through a raw expression of creativity or passion.. It doesn't hurt to take out the spelling mistakes afterwards of course

Agreed. I recently completed a controversial essay, in a passionate gush that also started at least 4 more. It was so good, I had to tone it down.

Likewise, I've only been able to write fiction when I've been able to empathize with a character, see the scene through his eyes. Today I got inspiration regarding a weak aspect of a story I'm working on. The inspiration came when I looked out the window and realized I was feeling something similar to what my character would be feeling (though her feelings are much sharper).

Sounds good. If that's the way you like to write, then next time you feel the urge, write me 200-600 words on something loosely related to Film, Music or Art (general interest pieces are also vaguely acceptable) for my magazine. It's exactly the kind of writing that it needs.

Do you ever stop advertising? I swear there must be something subliminal going on as the more I'm subjected to your PR the more I want to write something.

No.

You have to understand my magazine is basically my life. The constant urge to advertise is unrepenting.
