Script Writing

I've toying around with the idea of writing some kind of a script, since it seems pretty different from my usual writings and fun, but doesn't really have any idea where to start off or the format.

I mean, I have ideas for the script, but not sure how to present it. Do you have to write the setting and characters like a play at the beginning? Is there acts and/or scenes? Do you write the character's actions as well as dialogue? Is there a website (maybe) that would help me on this?

Thanks in advance for anything of help .

It's at the authors discretion, as far as I know. Classicaly, one would put all the necessary details of the characters appearence, and the stage setting, as a prologue to the play and the various scenes or acts. However, I've seen plays with none of that and dialogue in the form of an interchange between 'Character One' and 'Character Two'. It all depends on how much you want to specify, i suppose. Imagine you're planning to put on a play, and you get your script, and have to build a production around it - what would you want the script to contain in order to make the production similar in reality to your vision? Or would you rather leave it entirely to the director? There are no rules, only conventions. Enjoy!
