Putting Work Online

I don't know if this topic has come up before, but I noticed how many short stories were uploaded here, and was wondering how many of you have your work displayed online.

Unfortunately, in my sifting through literary magazines, both print and online, I've found that a lot of them won't take your work if it's been previously published, and putting it on a public forum or a personal website counts as previous publication.

Just something I ran into and was curious to your experiences with.

puting your work on a forum is not considered previous publication.the purpose of posting here, is to get comments and help in your writing.this was addressed at some point on www.lit.org, but i cant find it right now...and as a side note, not all magazines require first publication rights.

The vast majority of them require that you not be published elsewhere. I recall a few requesting that work "not be available anywhere online". I don't have any examples of guidelines because my list of favorite zines is at home.
