Or if your character made love before, have him or her desire it again ^_^
How is this a flaw?

I tend to disagree with that, but oh well.

A relationship can be a weakness if the antagonist finds a way to exploit it (or if one of the people in the relationship turns out to be an antagonist). On the other hand, relationships can also be sources of great strength. Would a hero be as willing to sacrifice so much, and put forth so much effort to save someone he doesn't really know? Wouldn't he be more likely to find that inner reserve of strength that he never knew he had if the life of his "One True Love" hung in the balance?

On another note, I think it's important for characters to have contradictions. A strict military type, who nonetheless lets his kids get away with anything. A neat freak, who has a messy office. These contradictions make characters more complex because you can no longer use a single word to describe them.

A good psychology course can work wonders for your understanding of the human psyche and developing believable characters. : )

I concur.

It seems that Ilyak and myself have nearly identical opinions when it comes to relationships in literature.

Become eccentric to the point that you acknlowedge your characters as potentially real people. Interact with them as real people. All else follows.
