I've written books for my daughter but have yet to publish anything. I haven't even tried. It's just a family thing. We write them and do the artwork together. More of a learning experiance. But I'll put in my two cents if I can find it.

Childrens book are so cute!

Sometimes.

Otherwise they're really cheesy and bad.

For example, I read one book (this is gonna be so funny if someone here was the author), and it was about an alligator keychain...who turned into a huge alligator when you put him in water... and a robot from the mean kid, since this was all for show and tell... and the alligator protected the kids from the out of control robot... and they FOUGHT... and the alligator proceeded to skateboard, write, eat, dance, sing, and generally show the kids that - oh my God! - she can do just anything.

Ew.

Don't see why she liked it.

Oops, I forget to give you some advice.

Animals rock. All my favorite childrens book are about animals.

Make it cute.

Don't make them dancing, singing, reading, shooting hoops animals and spend the whole book just talking about all the cool things a certain animal can do.

And have wonderful illustrations.

Rhymes can be so funny. But if you can't rhyme, without making them cheesy, don't rhyme...and pay a dime. For some lime. Oh yes. Sublime. Whoo.

Hm... then you would be the perfect persone to read my upcoming book . To bad its Dutch though. Its about tigers, and they don't dance or do stuff they normaly couldnt do. Allong the way you also learn a few quike facts about the tiger and troughout the story I point out some global problems which perfectly blend with the story. Like Racism, Animal testing and some other things. I realy hope it gets published.
I also have some wonderfull illustrations with it .

I read an alligator keychain one but there was nothing about a robot in it. I think it was mostly him trying to hid him form his dad. I remember my daughter loved it. Little kids have a strong sense of imagination and hilarity. What appeals to you might be really stupid to them. There's one book that I eally liked. Berry something. It's all rhyming and nonsense about berry hunting. Niether of my kids liked it. Go figure.

Well, this post seems to be active again. Though not really a children's author, I'm writing a book for kids. And most, if not all, of my poetry is going into it. The only kind of petry I like in a general sense is children's poetry.

I eventually plan to write books for children about 11-13 years old. I doubt I'll ever be able to get rid of the basic morbid-ness that exists in my stories, but in my experience there are some pretty morbid little kids out there. Harry Potter is plenty morbid, and just look how successful that was. Eventually, I plan to write action/adventure/fantasy stories for a young audience. Now, however . . .

*chuckles evilly*

Let's just say what I currently write is a little too . . . complex for their tastes.

Maybe there was a series about the alligator keychain? It had "goes back to school" in the title, or something like that, and it was just about the kid bringing it to school for show and tell, and this kid brought a robot-toy-action-figure thing to school, and then it came to life and they started fighting. I could never write for 11-13 year olds because at that age I was reading 500 page young adult books so.... yeah, can't really see myself writing iddy biddy novels.
