Writing trouble

Hello everyone I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I have got. I am writing a novel and am having a little problem with a bit of it.

I can get ideas for further nomin the story and new ideas for what I have already written but I cannot write the bit I am actually trying to write. This is really getting me down as i love writing my book but have just can't get past this bit.

Can anyone help me?

A professor of mine once told me there's no such thing as writer's block...Because of this, I try to write through and usually type out a bunch of junk that I don't really like, but they're words nonetheless.

I just try to think of a big idea to fire my mind into creative mode.

Or I just try to write poetry.

My advice ... just write SOMETHING! Describe the room you're in ... or your favourite walk ... or some aspect of the world in your novel ... start work on a different chapter ... anything!

And a great tip for avoiding block in the first place: at the end of the day, stop writing in the middle of a sentence, so that the next day you can start again straight away.

Good luck on your novel.

Ha - hope some of it is useful. Just so that you know you've got compant, here's about the best scrap of writing I've managed all day!

My Writing (Block) Today !

I find myself sitting, helpless, silent, seeking inspiration and finding none. I feel like I am squashed in to a cardboard box with my knees wedged under my chin, struggling to see what lies beyond the four walls of my cage.

Every time something attracts my attention I turn towards it in hopeful anticipation of a way out, of daylight, only to see it disappear back in to the flat, bland landscape of my box, just a mirage.

I think you are being a little harsh on yourself. To say you have writers block you have written about it quite well. What you have written here is actually quite a good descirption of writers block.

Call me cat if you want I suppose, Iwas being sincere about that nnot being so bad you know. I have decided to skirt arpound this part of the story as I seem to have no trouble writing the rest of the story or should I say, tthe more exciting bit. This was a fil in the space between big events bits, always harder to write in my opinion, looks like I will write this chapter later

Not only do I leave it alone, but I have to do something that will take my mind completely off whatever I'm writing about. If I'm suffering from writer's block, I can't just step away from the computer, because I'll still be thinking about what to write and I'll just dig myself in deeper. I'll play a video game, go to a movie or a bar, anything that will take my mind off the problem. Unless I'm on a deadline (which I frequently am), I won't return to the piece I'm writing until inspiration falls into my lap.

When I'm on a deadline, the pressure is usually enough to break through writer's block.

When I get writers block I go do something else. Usually when I get back to from whatever, I start off with a fresh attitude.
