POD

Anyone have any opinions or impressions on POD (Print On Demand)?

Do you think it's a worthwhile way to get work published if you don't want to go through submission hassles?

Just wondering.

As much a hassle as the submission process is, printing pod to avoid it might not be the best reason, all though an understandable one

The main thing is, does your story have a market? Do you have the ability to get it to your audience and do the promotion? POD printing will leave that up to you. There is still the stigma of self printing.

But, I personally like POD printing and plan to publish using pod later this year.

I've been arguing over the same thing with myself. POD is extremely cheap and it seems that it WOULD be worth it -- if the work is good enough that it is put on amazon.com and catalogs at borders and barnes & noble. I would hate being limited to only online ordering. What I am doing right now, though, is a total revamp of my entire novel. By the end of the summer I should be done retyping it and making it better. By then I will decide on POD or conventional methods. I tried conventional methods with other writings, but it takes so long for replies, and I doubt how often editors even take new authors seriously. Agents are probably the only way to get in at real publishers, though you always hear about some unheard-of striking it rich.

If you want to look into print on demand, the table top roleplaying industry is getting into POD in a very big way. If you checked out a few of their sites... www.openroleplaying.org , www.rpg.net (in the publishing forum), and www.rpghost.com you will be able to find a great deal of information on print on demand that is upt to date.
