Another thing to remember is that you have to feel the music with your heart and soul. Listen with your body and not with your ears!

I always listen to music while I write because if not I find my mind wanders...weird i know. It always has to be either heavy or trance/dancey. I can't listen to classical music or jazz, it relaxes my mind too much.

As for what I listen to...if I'm writing my vampire novel I listen to the score from Buffy and the matrix, Rob Zombie, VAST, Evanescence, Linkin park...stuff that gets me in the mood.

when writing anything else though I tend to listen to Jpop because it's fast paced but doesn't distract me, because I don't understand the lyrics

Music while you write is essential, but it has to have a certain rhythm to it. And the rhythm has to somewhat match the type of writing that is going on, though I mostly write with classical on, or more recently Reggae.

Ya mon! Irie!
