How long have you been writing seriously?

Actually, the name kind of says it all. We have some members here who are obviously old timers, and new ones introducing themselves every day. I'm just wondering how long everyone here has been writing.

And no, I don't mean writing like scribbling as a kid, or writing off and on when the mood takes them. Just actually sitting down every day and working toward a defined goal. Anybody?

If a degree of seriousness is required, my answer would only be about a year.

I'm not sure really. Because I look back at the stuff I wrote seriously in 2005, and I think to myself "This is shit, I can't have been serious." It's pretty hard to tell.

Hard to say. I had my first stories published about 15 years ago, but I don't write every day and I don't have defined goals.

Since my last year in college, when I realized that I would never use the Psych degree and began to look for ways to make the writing pay its own way.

Lol. Sorry, RomanticRose. Your siggy made me laugh.

Personally, I'm still looking toward that day when my writing starts to pay its own way. At this point, what I've sold hasn't earned back enough to make up what I've spent on postage, ink, and paper over the years. How I love e-subs.

I don't write every day, but I do work toward goals. First paid fiction appeared a little less than three years ago. My writing goal for the year is ten or so stories. So far, I've done five.

I don't write everyday - but it's definately more than three times a week. I attempted to start my novel at the start of this year but it's only really been the last month or so that I've gotten any serious work done. It took some time to figure out my style and voice, now that I'm comfortable, I write easier.

I want to have one novel finished before Christmas

My newspaper column I've been writing for six and a half years. Fiction I have been seriously exploring for one and a half. Got a few short story publications under my belt recently, so am now working on my first novel, almost 60,000 words in. Hard, hard work, but rewarding.

Wow, terrib. That's a lot of writing. Wish I could match it, but I only get in a couple hours a day. Having two toddlers and being a full time college student eats up most of my time.

Writing seriously against a goal? A few years. Writing every day? Not gonna happen.

A little over a year, I guess. But I don't write every day. I go through spells where I write at least 1.5K words per day every day, but my last such stint was in March.

I've been writing since I was eleven. Not well, obviously.
