Microsoft Word 2007 problem.
Does anyone else use this? Every time I open one of my novels it shows this message at the bottom of the screen: "Word is finishing analysing your document". I've been on the Microsoft help centre, Microsoft online centre, help forums and anything else I could think of to figure out why it's doing this. None of them can give me a definitive answer.
It takes almost fifteen minutes to analyse the document before you can write or edit in it. It's bugging the hell out of me. If I keep pressing Esc, for about ten goes, it will bring up the screen and I can work away, but I still want rid of this message. Anyone else had this problem and found a way to cure it?

Couple of times a week. The problem isn't from an outside source, as far as I can tell. A lot of people have said it has to do with one of the add-ons in the Office program, but they can't tell me specifics.

I use word 2007 and have never encountered that message. Perhaps the files have not fully converted to 07 from the previous incarnation of word you created the docs on. Have you tried saving them again in the earlier version then trying again to convert them to 07? All I can think of.

i see, how long has this been going on for and at what point did it start doing it? i.e. did it coincide with any significant changes or events to your computer that you can remember? and last question, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your word program, as in the software? that might be a way around it ... and bugger, how annoying
hopefully some one will come along who knows
edit: i think there are settings somewhere that can restore your computer to a previous time, as in when it was working *thinks* i'm not sure how to do it though, or if it even has any bearing on software settings :/

whenever I have an MS words problem I use the tech guys software - it has a memory of when your laptop/computer was last working correctly and takes you back to it
failing that, I go into PC world and hassle the staff - that's how I got the tech guys software

It's been pretty much going on since I installed Word 07. I believe it's a fault in one of the add-ons, but for the life of me I can't find it. I already uninstalled and reinstalled it, to no avail.

Sam, this guy is local but don't let that stop you. I've been using him for the curly ones for nearly five years and there isn't much he doesn't know. Make sure you give all details clearly and put "Ray Shaw" in the subject line. It may take some time to receive a reply. Like two or three weeks, if you're lucky.

Meanwhile why not uninstall it and go back to '03?
Edit: I shall send a copy of your OP to my tame nerd down the street. He has a mate in Taiwan who can crack anything. Between them they cracked the kernel of Vista Ultimate and created their own version, free for everybody, so maybe one of them might know what this is all about. Stay tuned.

I had Word 2007 installed on my computer free. After a week I burned it and BOUGHT Word 2000 and use it, even though it's in Spanish instead of English.
(I also zapped Vista off my box and PAID FRIGGIN' MICROSOFT for an XP disc. Same reasons, but much more so. It's Evolution Ala Redmond.)

I am just about to lash out on a new PC - this one is burping and farting.
Is lin's experience the general consensus - steer clear of Word 2007 and Vista?
Are they both bad news?

Cheers, OX. I appreciate that. I'll give that guy an email. What have I got to lose?
I don't think you can downgrade after upgrading. Not without completely wiping the system. I'm not sure, though. Anyone?

If you're opening up a lengthy document, could it just take time to load?
OpenOffice is just as good as Word, why don't you try it, it's free, doesn't need many resources, and is fully compatible with Office 2007.
Just trying it with the same document you're having trouble with could provide the answer.
Abiword isn't bad either.

I'm having trouble with all my docs, Harry. Even the small ones. I get this message for every single thing I try to open, be it two pages long or two hundred.

If you're referring to Sam's problem System Restore can't fix it as he's never had a time when it was working properly. If you're answering Querty pull your fucking head in. There's more to burping and farting than System Restore.
