Thread: Warning of possible site down time

Members may experience some difficulty in getting onto the site on Thursday (28th) or Friday (29th) while the forum software is being upgraded. If there is likely to be any prolonged downtime then there will be progress reports on the Facebook page and on Twitter.

Being useless at computers, I have a question. When I post a story (written in MS Word) here, the font size and type keep switching.

The thing that I highlight and copy is all one font. Post it here, and it will switch all over the place.

The standard font on this site seems to be Vedana so that's the font I always use in Word for anything that I want to post on this site. The forum software doesn't seem to like Word formatting and my way around that, as I'm no computer expert either, is to keep anything I want to post here as simple as possible. I still occasionally have to go to the advanced screen to edit.

I will simply change any of my stories to Verdana before I post them from now on.

Here's how to retain your formatting:

Use the "advanced" option.

Copy all the text from your word doc. It can be any font -- and paste it into the message box.

Highlight all the text. (CTRL+A)

Select desired font from "font" drop-down menu.

Select the size from the "size" drop-down menu. (Usually "2")

All your formatting should hold.

I prefer to post stories in a serifed font, rather than Verdana. But I use the forum's text editor to select the font rather than Word.

There's been a delay in getting the upgrade done so people can now expect possible downtime on Monday, 1st November.
