Good ol' writingforums.com!
Is it me, or is this the best damn writing forum on the internet? Sure, a lot of people have said that it's fallen down the rankings lately, but I still say this place beats all those other sites with its hands tied behind its back. Don't get me wrong, the other sites are good, too, but there's something nostalgic about this place. The layout and design is welcoming and unobtrusive, and I enjoy speaking with everyone here (yes, even you, Ox).
What do you think?

Anybody who worries about the rankings needs to get a life.
Actually, it's probably advantageous not to have it up where it's the first thing high schoolers on google spot.

I'm still relatively new here and although I haven't tried any other sites, I wouldn't want to.
People here are honest, mature, and there is such a diverse range of opinions that although differ so greatly are all held onto with integrity. What better place for writers?
Plus, the debates, I may not often involve myself but they make for fascinating reading :p

Yes. When I was in highschool though, I found this site. I googled writing forums and clicked on several sites before this one because I figured that writingforums.com would be over crowded. It really isn't. It has a very decent handful of very active members. Just enough to keep things interesting.

I like it here. The atmosphere is particularly nice.
I admit to have been around numerous writing forums. The majority of them were on the worse side of the line, and a few were decent, but not that great. This one is the first that I've enjoyed for a period of time longer than a week.

I'm very new here so I'll play both the idiot and the devil's advocate.
What are these rankings?
I've used several searches and checked several pages and can't find this site through google's search engine. Only .org. Are the sites affiliated?
How long has this site been around?
What I'm looking for is a decent place to learn more about writing (which requires a large community of knowledgeable people, hopefully a few of which are educated*), get critical feedback and discuss books. Tell me writingforums.com members, is this the place I've been looking for?
All that jerkiness aside, it seems nice here and would love to be a member.
*not that education is required to be a decent writer, reader or critic, but sometimes it helps.

The site was originally created by Chrispian (that's his WF ID; don't know his real name) and has been about for... a good few years anyway. One particular member joined in 2002, so...
This is certainly the place you've been looking for. I don't know if .com and .org are affiliated, but I do know that .org was inspired by this site, so take what you want from that.
The rankings? I think the way they work is: you type in something like "writing forums" and the first hit returned is the highest ranking website. Something like that. I think this site was usually high up there, but in recent months it's dropped down the rankings. These rankings, however, have no bearing on how proficient the site is. I truly believe this is the best writing forum on the internet, and I'm a member of nearly all of them.

Why does this not surprise me?
How did the world ever stagger along in the pre-Sam era?

Well, I'm not quite of the 2002 era, but I joined in 2003.
