This is certainly the place you've been looking for. I don't know if .com and .org are affiliated, but I do know that .org was inspired by this site, so take what you want from that.

The rankings? I think the way they work is: you type in something like "writing forums" and the first hit returned is the highest ranking website. Something like that. I think this site was usually high up there, but in recent months it's dropped down the rankings. These rankings, however, have no bearing on how proficient the site is. I truly believe this is the best writing forum on the internet, and I'm a member of nearly all of them.

Chrispian Burks is the creator and founder of WritingForums .com. His was the lone 2002 Dec entry -as a test-as forumbot. The forum went on line in Jan 2003 as a companion site to Lit .Org. The writingforums .com is not affiliated with .org- the owner of that site though was heavily influenced and borrowed heavily from the design and template of this site. (nothing wrong with that-it shows that Chris was an innovative web designer.)

The rankings were changed a few months ago by google- We were at one time on the top but now we've dropped a few- again no big deal- things change back and forth.

Hope that clears a few things up

yeah, this place is pretty awesome!

I joined a couple years ago, and I can't get enough! Plus, I think I may have made a few friends here as well! Thanks Writing Forum!

A different writing forum was suggested to me by a writing friend.

I looked at it, and felt home sick for this place.

So I came back. <3

WF is nowhere even close to the best when it comes to actual writing or critique. It's strength lies in a sense of community that exists here.

I'm kind of new in here too. It's the first forum I found on google and after joining, I don't want to go anywhere else. I mean where else would you find a supernatural fan, a crazy mexican and a big grey bull?

Oh and as for the standard of writing in here... It's not really an issue because well, isnt that what this place is for? To get good at writing?

So yeah, WritingForums rocks

I like some things about this site (including it's members of course) but I'm also fond of my old home, fantasy-writers.org. I like their way of organizing things, but maybe that's just because I've been going there a long time and am used to where everything is.

This site could be excellent as there are some very knowledgeable and helpful people here. Unfortunately, the site management fails to enforce its own "rules" when it come to members of the dominant clique. For example, "lin" has no restriction on his language or personal attacks on others...don't know why he feels the need to be so mean spirited. Regardless of the reason, his pathology is tolerated to the discredit of this place.

After seeing that this site has no standards, I decided to suspend further participation except to drop in every once in a while to see if malcontents like "lin" are still ruining it for the decent people. I've noticed the participation has been diminishing in recent months...wonder why? ("participation" means the total posts after removing the 12 useless posts per day by "lin")

You have? Do you mind sharing how you came to this conclusion? On the contrary, I think participation is the same as always, if not more. I'd say there isn't another writing forum on the 'net that gets as many hits a day as this one.

At this moment, WF.com has 84 "users" on line...35 members, 49 guests. WF.org has 124 "users" on line...60 members, 64 guests. Why?

When I first started lurking on these sites, WF.com usually exceeded WF.org in activity. (BTW - total threads and total posts are also listed at the bottom of each site's home page. It's easy to see the growth each month.) During the past six months of lurking, and then participating, I noticed a significant shift in activity between the two sites. I also noticed a corresponding escalation in ruthless, nasty posts on WF.com, and at the same time, a concerted effort on WF.org to prevent the bashing and profanity that is tolerated here.

I recently audited a long list of "lin's" posts to see if my impression was just based on an isolated incident. His profanity and personal attacks were common and numerous people expressed surprise or anger at the way they were treated. Do you honestly think people will continue on this site with that experience? Of course, there is a small clique who regard his behavior as harmless and they won't defend the victims...hence the drop in participation...or perhaps, the lack of growth when other sites are expanding in membership.

In the short time that I participated here, I met several very nice and knowledgeable people in here. I miss them...youself included. I enjoyed interaction with you, Tiamat and a few others. I really do wish the site was more friendly so I could participate. But, I absolutely will not waste my time on a site that tolerates the personal attacks and profanity by people like "lin". I don't have time for that kind of childish behavior. So, I am one of "lin's" casualties who has moved on...much happier too, I must say.

This is my last post on this site. Good bye.

Yep, this site sure does have it's ways of weeding out the weak. Thank you, lin.

Fortunately, I don't think this site's aim is to compete with the number of members on the .org site. I prefer the closer community. I also prefer a community where we have more freedom with what we say. I'm sorry that it is difficult for you to emotionally cope with the frankness of people on this site. Rest assured, you will not be missed.

We certainly do miss members who leave Writingforums.com. We're sorry that you don't want to participate here anymore, and we hope to see you back one day.

If you have issues with specific posts, remember to use the report post function to tell us about it. We can't be everywhere, but we can find things more easily if we get a heads up.
